CT Coronary Angiogram (CTCA)
Computerized Tomography Coronary Angiogram (CTCA)
It is a non-invasive 3D imaging test done to look at the heart and its blood vessels using x-ray.
It is an essential tool used widely to rule out significant coronary artery disease (blockage) when this cannot be achieved by other non-invasive tests.
An intravenous line (cannula/drip) is put on your arm and contrast (dye) is injected through this while a donut shaped machine clicks images of your chest.
What to Expect?
A doctor has to assess you to see whether this test is appropriate for you
You will be asked to get some blood tests to check your kidney function. In addition to this, the doctor may prescribe some medications to control your heart rate as a better image quality can be achieved if the heart rate is 60 or below.
All other detailed preparation will be explained during the appointment booking.
On the day of procedure, you will be asked to change into a gown, a consent is taken, a cannula/ drip is placed on your arm once your heart rate is controlled and you will be taken for the scan.
After the test you will be kept for approximately another 30 mins for monitoring before discharge.
The reports take approximately 7 to 10 working days and you will be advised appropriately on the follow up procedure. A copy of all reports will be given to you and your referring doctor as required.
