CT Coronary Angiogram (CTCA)

Computerized Tomography Coronary Angiogram (CTCA)

  • It is a non-invasive 3D imaging test done to look at the heart and its blood vessels using x-ray.
  • It is an essential tool used widely to rule out significant coronary artery disease (blockage) when this cannot be achieved by other non-invasive tests.
  • An intravenous line (cannula/drip) is put on your arm and contrast (dye) is injected through this while a donut shaped machine clicks images of your chest.

What to Expect?

  • A doctor has to assess you to see whether this test is appropriate for you
  • You will be asked to get some blood tests to check your kidney function. In addition to this, the doctor may prescribe some medications to control your heart rate as a better image quality can be achieved if the heart rate is 60 or below.
  • All other detailed preparation will be explained during the appointment booking.
  • On the day of procedure, you will be asked to change into a gown, a consent is taken, a cannula/ drip is placed on your arm once your heart rate is controlled and you will be taken for the scan.
  • After the test you will be kept for approximately another 30 mins for monitoring before discharge.
  • The reports take approximately 7 to 10 working days and you will be advised appropriately on the follow up procedure. A copy of all reports will be given to you and your referring doctor as required.
