The facility is overseen by NZ-based cardiologists (heart specialists) with weekly/fortnightly visiting clinics. Local specialists may do the initial screening. All the angiograms and stents are done by highly specialised NZ cardiologists who are experts in the field.
Dr Seif El-Jack

Seif El-Jack is a general and interventional cardiologist based at Auckland’s North Shore Hospital where he is the Director of the CardioVascular Unit, Waitemata DHB. Starting in the UK, Dr El-Jack finished his general cardiology training at Greenlane and Auckland City Hospitals where he also completed an Interventional Cardiology Fellowship. He then undertook a further interventional cardiovascular fellowship at the renowned William Beaumont Hospital, Michigan, USA before returning back to NZ.
Since 2011, Dr El-Jack has also undertaken annual visits performing charity stenting procedures at Colonial War Memorial Hospital in Suva with the support of the Friends of Fiji Heart Foundation.
Dr El-Jack has a keen interest in academic cardiology and leads a busy Interventional Cardiology Research Programme at North Shore Hospital, which actively participates in international and local research with several relevant publications in the field.
Dr El-Jack is a Fellow of the College of Physicians of Edinburgh, the Royal Autsralasian College of Physicians, the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand, The American College of Cardiology and the Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Interventions (USA).
Dr Ali Khan
MBBS, FRACP, FCSANZ
Dr Ali Khan is a General and Interventional Cardiologist working at North Shore Hospital, Auckland, New Zealand. Dr Khan did his Bachelor of Medicine degree (MBBS) and postgraduate training in Medicine and Cardiology in Bangladesh before moving to New Zealand.
After attaining fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP), Dr Khan moved to the United States of America to pursue a Fellowship in Interventional Cardiology, at the esteemed William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Michigan. He then returned to North Shore Hospital as a Staff Cardiologist and Interventionalist Dr Khan has interests in both Invasive and Non-invasive Cardiology, Catheter based Cardiac and Endovascular interventions, CT coronary angiography, General and Preventative Cardiology, Cardiomyopathies, Cardiac Rhythm disorders, and Metabolic disorders associated with cardiovascular disease.
Dr Khan is a Fellow of the Royal Autsralasian College of Physicians and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
Besides English, Dr Khan speaks Bengali and Hindi.
Dr Albert Ko
MBBS (UNSW) FRACP FCSANZ
Dr Ko is a general/interventional cardiologist with a wide range of expertise especially in the management of coronary and valvular heart disease.
Dr Ko has been involved in voluntary cardiology work in Fiji for over 10 years and is currently actively involved in the coronary intervention program at Colonial War Memorial Hospital where he performed the first ever successful coronary angioplasty and stent procedure in Fiji in 2010.
Graduated in Sydney, Australia, Dr Ko did his Advanced Cardiology training at Greenlane Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand before taking up a full time consultant position at Middlemore Hospital where he developed a world class Cardiac Investigation Unit. He subsequently returned to Sydney and completed a Coronary Intervention Fellowship.
Dr Ko consults in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
He is a Fellow of the Royal Autsralasian College of Physicians and the Cardiac Society of Australia and New Zealand.
Dr Parma Nand
MBBS, FRACS (Gen Surg), FRACS (Cardiothoracic)
Cardiothoracic Surgeon, Auckland City Hospital, New Zealand.
Fiji born surgeon with training in New Zealand, Australia, the UK and Canada, Dr Parma Nand is one of the founders of Friends of Fiji Heart Foundation and has lead its annual charitable surgical mission in Fiji for the last 12 years, mainly based in Lautoka.
Dr Nand is a Senior Cardiothoracic Surgeon in the Auckland region with expertise in coronary, valve and aortic surgery. He is a co-founder of HIL as part of a long held dream of comprehensive cardiac services in Fiji.
Mr Nand has surgical fellowships in both general and cardiothoracic surgery. He will be providing surgcial advice in HIL.
Dr Bharat Bali
MBBS (Hons), PGDIM, MMED, Fellowship Angiogram & Pacing (Auckland)

Dr Bali is one of the emerging leaders in cardiology in Fiji. Having finished his Masters in Internal Medicine, he was very keen on furthering his cardiology knowledge first as a specialty interest in CWM Hospital in Suva and later undertaking a General and Invasive Cardiology Fellowship in Auckland, New Zealand where he trained in imaging cardiology, coronary angiography/angioplasty and pacemaker implantation.
Following his fellowship, Dr Bali returned to a Specialist position in Fiji where he provides Internal Medicine and Cardiology Services in Lautoka Hospital.
Dr Bali will be holding specialist cardiology clinics and specialized cardiac testing at Heart International.
